Welcome to our new staff!

A big Hippy welcome to our incoming staff in Fall 2023!

The Hippy Lab offers work opportunities to undergraduate students, enabling the students to learn more about clinical research and working in a hospital setting.

Learn more about the new team members and their work with the lab.

Olamide Olabiyi

Hi, my name is Ola!

I recently completed my third year as an Honors Biology student at UBC. I started as a co-op student with the Hippy Lab in Fall 2023.

I volunteer as a Research Assistant with the START Team at the BC Children's Hospital Emergency Department as well as a Child Life Volunteeron T7. Outside of my commitments at the hospital, I am one of the co-presidents of the UBC Black Student Union, a TA for CPSC100, a residence advisor at Place Vanier and one of the co-founders of the Hope to House Awareness Initiative at UBC. I am driven by a desire to build a future career in the healthcare field, specifically with a focus on working with children.

In my leisure time, I enjoy playing Wordle, basketball, travelling, knitting and catching up on reality TV.

Sukanya Sen

Hi, my name is Sukanya!

I am a a fourth-year student studying Computer Science and Mathematics at UBC. I am starting my work learn position as a Communications Project Assistant with the Hippy Lab.

In future, I aspire to become a software developer.

In my leisure time, I enjoy painting and traveling to experience new cultures and landscapes.

Samantha Tang

Hi, my name is Sam!

I grew up in Hong Kong and am currently a 4th Year UBC undergraduate majoring in Microbiology and Immunology. I joined the Hippy Lab as a co-op student in September 2023. As a Clinical Research Assistant, my work is focused on research and surveillance initiatives like the BC Care Pathway for Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip (DDH). This project aims to establish a standardized care pathway for early identification and screening to improve patient health outcomes.

In the future, I hope to pursue a career as a pediatric surgeon or as a clinical researcher - I’m torn between the two!

Outside of research and academics, I love to read, hit the gym, and spend time with friends and family.
