We are incredibly proud to share that Dr. Emily Schaeffer, Hippy Lab’s Research Director, has been appointed as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Schaeffer celebrated her 10 year anniversary with BCCHR and the Hippy Lab just last year in 2024. As our Researcher Director of over a decade now, she was crucial in building the lab, and all of the growth and achievements we’ve had since. Dr. Schaeffer has played a leading role in the development and expansion of the Hippy Global Registry Program, particularly the Global Hip Dysplasia Registry (GHDR) and the SCFE Longitudinal International Prospective (SLIP) Registry.
Her work has helped establish new standards for global collaboration and data-driven research in pediatric orthopaedics. She is also deeply committed to mentorship, working closely with students, trainees, and research staff to build research capacity and foster innovation. Her unwavering dedication to every aspect of building a world where hip health and mobility are accessible to all, whether through conducting impactful research, developing robust clinical registries, or mentoring and training the next generation of researchers, serves as a foundational pillar of the Hippy Lab’s ongoing success, innovation, and vibrant research culture. We are over the moon to see receive this well-deserved appointment, and are looking forward to all the ways she will continue to inspire us.
This new role reflects her dedication, leadership, and the impact she has already made in the field. We are so proud of everything she has accomplished and look forward to supporting her in this exciting next chapter.
